What happens when you take Pantera, move them to the north-east coast, and throw in a little blusey-kick? You come up with "Killed the Fixtion," a band from Newark, NJ. They just released their new single entitled "Moonlite Blue" at midnight today...100% free. More details after the break
"Moonlite Blue" starts off with a heavy, in your face attitude that makes you want to repeatedly beat the hell out of someone while you're standing in the pit. The powerful, distorted guitar riffs of Kevin Izquierdo are distinguishable throughout the entire song; reminiscence of Dimebag Darrell's quality guitar work. It's extremely easy to identify the bluesy-roots within "Moonlite Blue." And, it feels like these guys have been mixing metal with the blues for decades.
Slowing down about a minute and a half in, I had the sudden urge to stop thrashing around my room, put an arm around my invisible headbanging partner and sway back and forth with a lighter in hand. Robert Asencio's groovy bass playing accompanied by Nelson Ceron's magnificent voice make the tempo change one of the most enjoyable parts of the song, in my personal opinion.
A slow, steady tempo for about another minute leads us right back into a fast, metal driven guitar riff. And, off to the headbanging races I went. The instruments and vocals through this song are killer. This is one of the best new tracks I've heard from an up-and-coming metal band in quite a long time. I see a bright future for these guys and wish them all the best!
Overall Grade: 8/10
What I Liked: The mixture of heavy metal and blues riffs made this song captivating toward the end. I cannot get enough of it
What I Hated: The fact that this shit has to end sometime.
